Summer Nights

Well the Summer is coming to an end. September has crept up faster then we could hope for, but it brings a new season upon us. Seasons of change and seasons of joy, colder weather, family gatherings, holidays, then the new year. We just got back from our first family vacation in Two years. My whole family Mom, Dad, Brothers, Sister and her family, all go up to Door county to spend the weekend once a year. It just so happens that since Mark and I have been married, we have been going every other year. So the last time we made a trip up there, Kyron was 6 months old, and we were all crammed in Mark's little car with luggage for an army. You could hardly tell there was a baby in the back seat. This year was a little different. We have a mini van now, and so much more room to spare. I swear we brough so much less stuff, because we didn't even fill the back seat to the top like I thought we would. We left early Friday morning, to arrive to Door county around 10:00. We had a tee time for 11:00. For my Dad's birthday we gave him the gift of a round of golf and the guys had gone the last time we were there, I got to join them this year. It was a very hot day, but some what breezy. So all in all, a nice day to golf. We took the blue course, where hole 9 is rated the number one scenic hole in all of Wisconsin. It was very beautiful, which almost made it hard to tee off, even though it was a straight shot down. The rest of the day was just family time, sitting and relaxing in our log cabin in the woods. My parents made us a nice dinner, each one of us had a meal we were to cook. We ate in time to leave the house and see the first sunset while we were there. Such a beautiful sight to see. Saturday was all about sight seeing. We walked around Egg Harbor, on the Marina and to some shops, then up to Fish Creek and Ephriam, for Lunch Fred and Fuzzy's along the water. Then back home to get ready for the theater. The musical was called "Cheeseheads" and it was very comical. Definately a Wisconsin play. Afterwards we had Pizza at a little joint called Wild Tomato. Sooo good! We skipped out on Ice cream for the night and headed back pretty late. Sunday we attended a little church in Sister Bay, and headed for the beach to enjoy the sand and water, on a hot day, after Mark and I cooked up some hamburgers and brats for lunch. The beach wasn't too crowded, we usually go to White Fish Dunes State Park, but were only a few miles away from a public very small but very nice beach called Alpine beach. Made our annual sand sculpture and took in the smells of the sand and fresh air the bay had to offer. Melissa and Aaron cooked a nice Mexican Lasagna for supper, and we tried to make it to the last sunset of our vacation, and were just in time to see it dissapear behind the clouds. Then our annual Mini-golf adventure. Kyron was old enough this year to play, we have taken him several times this summer already, and he is quite the pro. He actually got a hole in one on a hole, which turned out to be the one you could get a free game on if you could do it. So low and behold, our two and a half year old son, got a free game of mini-golf, that never expires, because he got a hole in one. We ended our night at the Door County Ice Cream Factory, where the variety of flavors made it so much harder to choose, but delicious none the less. Monday we just drove around, and looked for places of interest to us. The next time we go, which will be two years from now, it will be our year to pick which place we stay at, so we were getting some pretty good ideas while we were up there. Although we may have to go up for a day to check out some houses, they seem to accomodate the whole family better. We met up for lunch with everyone at the Cookery, which burned down a few years ago, but is remodeled and booming with business now. Then we ended our vacation with a trip to the Chocolate Chicken. Where we got ice cream and some chocolate covered oreos. Our tip back was just as long as the trip there, but very worth it for the time away. We look forward to finding new things to do every time we go, and are excited to finally get to pick the place. If anyone has never been up there, it is a great place to get away, walk along the water, of any beach. See the sunset with your signifacant other, and just have a mellow vacation away from the business of life. I hear the fall colors are extrodanary and it's cheaper to stay there too! (For more pictures of our vacation, go to my Facebook page) So as we get back to reality and our medium sized town. Church life, friends, and family, in the months to come, I am trying to work out the stress level I have when it comes to things. It is so much easier to let go and just have fun. Or just not worry about how things will turn out. I have always been a person who needs things to be in order and when I plan something, making sure everything goes right, I need to just relax and put it in God's hands. Because whatever happens it's because God has allowed it to, and He's testing my reaction to things. So for the rest of the year, I will be happy to say there will be some much needed changes in the way I view things. Thanks for listening...
